Extremadura 14 – 21 February 2012

Conservation project

Traditional low intensity farming, especially non-irrigated arable farmland but also seasonal grazing, supports much of the special wildlife of Extremadura – and can never be protected just by nature reserves. The conservation of the Spanish steppes and 'dehesa' wood pasture is a great priority for the Sociedad Española de Ornitología (Spanish Ornithological Society / BirdLife Spain).

SUPPORTING

Marcelino Cardalliaguet from SEO sent us this message after meeting the group in March 2011:

"It was a pleasure for me, as SEO/BirdLife Representative in Extremadura, to have my annual meeting with the Honeyguide group and through my talk share with them the extraordinary ornithological richness of the region, updates on the status of certain species based on very recent studies, as well as describing the main threats (current and potential) and the work that we do as SEO/BirdLife for the conservation of the environment and landscape of Extremadura.

"Honeyguide's initiative to make a donation from the group to support the work of SEO/BirdLife in Extremadura is for us, most of all, a breath of hope, proof that there are people who are committed to nature conservation and prepared to support us and value what we are doing.

"Thank you and thank you again for your commitment and the example that you set that both inspires and encourages us to keep on with the work we do."
