Danube Delta

Leaders

The team from our friends at Ibis to lead this holiday was undecided when going to print. It’s usually either Eugen Petrescu or Daniel Petrescu.

Eugen Petrescu is the Romanian Ornithological Society’s conservation officer in the Danube Delta. Daniel shares the passion for birds of his father Eugen and is part of the team running Ibis Tours, which they founded in 1995. Mihai Petrescu (no relation) is Ibis’s botanist and usually joins the group in Dobrogea. He is a doctor in forest ecology, working as a researcher for the Danube Delta Museum in Tulcea. They all speak excellent English.

Chris Gibson is a conservation officer for Natural England working in north Essex and an author of several wildlife books. He has led many holidays for Honeyguide, including on Menorca. He is an outstanding all round naturalist, from birds through flowers to moths, and great fun to be with. He will also join the Ibis team in Romania – like all Honeyguide’s leaders, he’s itching to see the Danube Delta.

Chris Gibson

A naturalist of distinction.  Any Honeyguider who has travelled with Chris Gibson knows this is an apt description, but now it's official as Chris was presented with a prestigious Naturalist Award on 9 May by David Bellamy for the British Naturalists’ Association. This award is given annually to ‘a field naturalist of distinction’. Read more here
