Holiday Details

The fine coastal path from Praia da Luz to the historic town of Lagos is a good walk and excellent for flowers. Excursions include to Pera marshes for birds and flowers and to Ria Formosa reserve where there is still a tidal mill in working order and a breeding station for water dogs. Sagres, the most westerly point, is an area of special interest for flowers and this west coast. Inland the limestone ridges around Rocha da Pena and Alte offer good walking and flowers. Here too we can forsake a picnic lunch just once to sample the local fare in a typical Portuguese restaurant of wild boar in red wine with a commendable jug wine! Most days will involve some walking, sometimes with short but steep climbs, and a basic fitness to walk about six miles is suggested. As always, the itinerary is kept flexible to react to local conditions and the interests of the group.
